OBJECTIVES

This Master in Occupational Safety and Health Management is structured to improve skills and knowledge of participants in enhancing career development. The aims of the programme are to produce adaptable graduates, who will have comprehensive knowledge in the field of OSH Management, and capable of meeting the demands of new emerging trends and challenges and provide an avenue for graduates, and incumbent OSH practitioners, to pursue a higher level of qualification in the field.

  • Apply technical and managerial skills to facilitate OSH issues at the workplace.
  • Explain the relationship between general business management and safety and health management functions.
  • Evaluate globalization of safety and health standards on promoting prevention of injuries and illness to workers, and protection of property.
  • Apply the principles of safety and health management systems and be able to identify the key system elements appropriate to organisational performance needs.
  • Appraise techniques used to promote injuries and illness prevention to workers, and protection of property and the environment.
  • Evaluate the ethical and professional challenges of a professional in safety and health.
  • Estimates the cost of injury and ill health which burden to the organisation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in logic manner, elementary research methods, data collection, data analysis, presentation and management.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This programme is intended for experienced safety and health professionals, practicing at management level.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

(1) A candidate must have a bachelor's degree with honours from UUM or other recognised or accredited local and foreign universities and a relevant working experience of at least a year; OR

(2) A bachelor's degree with a relevant working experience of at least three (3) years; OR

(3) Any other equivalent qualification recognised by Universitit Utara Malaysia

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

To receive Master in OSH Management degree, a graduate student must satisfy the following two (2) main requirements:

(1) Earn a minimum total of 36 graduate credits, AND

(2) Successfully complete all course work with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 or better.

To meet the two (2) requirements, the Faculty of Human and Social Development graduate students must complete 30 graduate credits through course work and submitting a 6-credit master's dissertation.
