NIOSH as the leader for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in Malaysia is taking a lead to introduce R&D grant. For this purpose, NIOSH has set aside a budget of 10% of the return of investment on its endowment fund, for the intended grant.
Several principles in allocating grants for R&D projects:
- To support applied research projects
- To support projects with high OSH value
- To support projects with high national priority
- To support projects that utilizes available infrastructure and scientific instruments at NIOSH
With this grant, it hoped to generate more research in OSH field and will enhance OSH level in Malaysia.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Research organization, institutions of higher education, private sectors, individual and students pursuing graduate or doctorate degree.
NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS
NIOSH R&D Committee will notify researcher of their application no later than two (2) months from the approval.
COVERAGE OF NIOSH R&D GRANT
Projects that are inline with NIOSH R&D Priority Area and get approval by R&D Committee are eligible to receive NIOSH R&D grant.
NIOSH R&D PRIORITY AREA:
Industrial Hygiene: Work Environment Monitoring, Biological Exposure Monitoring, Risk Assessment, Indoor Air Quality and Engineering Control Measurement
Occupational Health: Occupational Asthma, Lung Profile for Quarry Workers, Stress and Medical Surveillance profile at Occupational Medical Centre.
Ergonomics : Work Related Muscular Skeletal Disorder Management, Ergonomics Design, Physical Work Capacity Evaluation, Evaluation and Ergonomics Intervention of Working Environment - Human Vibration, Heat Stress and Strain, Seating Task, Standing Work.
Occupational Safety: OSH Management and System Audits; OHSAS, 5 S, ILO, and Work safe
Training: Training Needs/Analysis in OSH, Training & Development in OSH, Evaluation of OSH Training, Manpower Development in OSH, Management of Manpower & Resources in OSH
Information Technology and Dissemination: OSH Reporting System - Intra Company and Expert System for OSH

| Any time during the year to NIOSH R&D Committee.
All application form will be screened and endorsed by the appropriate NIOSH's division involved and channeled to NIOSH R&D Panel before submission to the NIOSH R&D Committee.
